What is it with Kardashians & nudes? The two are inseparable, can’t have one without the other #AmIRight ? Is it a coincidence that Kim’s lip set is all nudes? Perhaps. I knew something big was about to happen about a month ago when Mario Dedivanovic (@makeupbyMario) Kim’s A-1 glam man posted teasers of the two getting ready for a “secret project”. Kim was posting snaps from this shoot with the same caption. You guys know what I’m talking about. KKW X KYLIE.
I have a couple of the matte lip kits, but if I am being totally honest here, I am kind of getting tired of only super matte lips. A creamy finish is more natural-looking and appealing. I may already own 7,907,275 nude lipsticks, but I can’t ever have enough! Usually, I end up mixing liners and layering lipsticks of various textures and colors to get my nude lip of the day. When I saw the swatches on Instagram, I knew I had to have these.
I love that it is a set of four. This way, I have to get all of them instead of making excuses to myself as to why I need all of them. They’re all quite similar, but it seems the undertone is a little different in each which can make a huge difference on an overall look.
The latest Kylie Cosmetics craze is the huge collab with her big sis Kim. The set sold out in hours ( like so many of Kylie’s launches). Everything these girls touch turns to cash. Instead of $29 plus shipping for one lip kit, you get four full size lipsticks for $45. Can we pause for a moment and appreciate this packaging? Frosted matte tubes with baby pink drips and the luxe case feels like skin almost. The packaging is legit perfection. *flips hair*
The Ordering Process
I’ve never been one to wait by my computer for a launch for anything. However, last Wednesday I finished cleaning up dinner and poured myself a glass of Pinot Noir by 5:52 Eastern Time. I checked Instagram and saw that the launch was in seven minutes. The Kylie Cosmetics team must be used to site crashes, so they were ready for this launch. Note the refresh button *rolls eyes* they were expecting this. I began thinking that this is what makes the Kardash/Jenners geniuses. The demand. They know how to turn wants into needs.
I continued rolling my eyes at the fact that I was one of those crazies that were relentlessly hitting refresh once the clock hit 5:59. Then I became frantic. I needed to get through. It was like a game now. I clicked and clicked as my Pinot sips turned to chugs. Oh the freakin suspense. I finally saw the spinning circle that meant a new page was loading. I got through! Then this…
IF a spot opens?! I was furious and more fixated on the fact that I had to have these lipsticks. I was a legit crazy person for about nine minutes. 540 seconds is a long time to be insane. I was also starting to feel those gulps of red and I’m sure that wasn’t helping my inner beauty junkie cope with incurable, child-like impatience.
*gulps wine*
*taps foot*
*nervously twirls hair*
(Nine Minutes Later)
The package was scheduled to be delivered today, but it arrived yesterday. Under promise, over deliver…well played.
Product Review
The formula is the consistency of liquid lipstick before it dries. This lipstick doesn’t dry, it stays that consistency. It has a definite sheen to it. Think lip gloss without the stickiness and slightly less shine. It has the perfect amount of shine. You don’t get that gross line where your lips part like with most glosses and liquid lipsticks. It feels very light and applies thinly. I lined my lips with a nude liner to act as a primer base and it lasts quite a bit longer.
Kimberly is a muted brown based nude. Sometimes light nudes tend to make my lips disappear but this is a perfect nude shade on my skin. I absolutely love this color. My favorite of the four.
Kim is a nude with peachy pink undertones. I am in love with this color too. It looks fresh and natural.
Kiki is a bubble gum pink based nude. I wasn’t totally sure if this was going to be to Barbie on me. I think it is a great color! I was surprised at how wearable it is. Super pretty and feminine. Add lots of lashes and pink blush for a girly look.
Kimmie is a red based nude. I don’t normally like red based colors on me, but so far, the quad hadn’t disappointed yet. It’s more of a soft rosy flush. SO pretty! I can honestly say, I love all four shades in the set.
An enthusiastic thumbs up from me. All four shades are super wearable and SO flattering. I think they’d all be flattering no matter what skin tone you have. At around $10 each plus free shipping, I’d dare to say it’s a steal. There are tons of drugstore lipsticks over $10 and even more prestige brand lipsticks well over $10.
