I was inspired to do this quickie project from Pinterest. I’ve been wanting some sort of shelf for my bathroom for quite some time.
I actually bought a shelf from Pier 1 Imports a while back. When I got it home, it was too big for the wall. I returned it and bought another shelf. I held it against the wall where I wanted to hang it. I realized that it blocked the light from above so much that it made it even darker in the bathroom. 0 for 2. Not cool.
The same day that I got the cleaning bug and cleared out my nightstand (read about those strange findings here), I decided that was the day I needed more storage space in the bathroom. I didn’t want a shelf for knickknacks. I needed something that was functional. Unfortunately, I’m cheap & broke, so I did what I always do. I looked around my house to see if I could dig anything up to repurpose. I was using this basket to hold books for decoration, and luckily I am a hoarder who buys multiples of everything. So, of course I had a spare basket sitting at the bottom of a closet.
I used the nail that was already in the wall from the wreath that I D-I-Yed (see the tutorial here).
It looked cute, but function trumps decoration sometimes. I needed some place to store TP, swabs, and soap. I wedged the existing nail through the basket weave and my bath supplies found their new home.
I know this isn’t the sexiest bathroom shelving fixture you’ve ever laid eyes on, but it’s quick, free and functional! Plus, I’ll probably change the bathroom decor in a few weeks when I get bored with it anyway 😉 .
